what’s up in vanuatu?

nothing much.

kidding. too much. i’ve spent the last few days in vila and over the past few days i’m really starting to realize how awesome vanuatu is. i’ve also come to realize how much i love to travel. how much i love to eat new foods. how much i love the world outside of the united states of america.

during our training this past week, one of the “peace corps big guys” showed us a video that sent chills through my body. if you’ve neverĀ seen it before, i highly recommend it. if you’ve seen it before, watch it again. and again. and again. that’s what i would do if my internet was fast enough.

i need to do something like this in the future. what a life!

anyway, onto the vanuatu stuff. vanuatu is a really strange place. it has its many many quirks. it’s listed on the United Nations Least Developed Countries list, though there are talks of a bump up.

so you see lots of undeveloped things on the outerĀ islands (mine included) but then you see some not so rural things here and there too.

here are some of those random things that have come up over my time here.

from this…

i have lots of roaming cows and chickens (they're BFF)

nature is beautiful (from the laycock mansion)

it rains a lot here... this is quite normal

to this…

i walk by this every day... cancer here i come!

vanuatu now has a cell phone company... this will be a future entry in itself. this is the ONLY billboard on my entire island. depressing.

a sticker picture machine. welcome to the twilight zone.

word.

so that just about sums up how much of vanuatu is on opposite ends of the development spectrum. development is a funny thing.

i leave for pentecost in an hour. my procrastination bone kicked in again and here i am rushing to finish things before i leave. anyway, peace and love.

P.S.

OH! packages are still to the same address. you can still do the email thing. and if you want to have correspondence through snail mail, email me your address to that volunteer peace corps address or write a letter to the package address and i’ll write you back!
